5 SAISD Students Named All-State Musicians by Texas Music Educators Association
San Angelo ISD proudly celebrates five students from Central High School and Lake View High School who reached the highest level a high school musician can achieve through the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) by earning the distinguished honor of TMEA All-State in band, orchestra, and choir.
Congratulations to:
- Heidi Bundick, LVHS sophomore, All-State Band, string bass,
- Gregory Faught, CHS junior, All-State Orchestra, double bass,
- Elijah Jackson, CHS senior, All-State Mixed Choir, 1st chair tenor 1,
- Lauren Ochoa, CHS junior, All-State Band, clarinet, and
- Jon Dirk Ross, CHS senior, All-State Tenor-Bass Choir, 4th chair bass 1.
To be selected for the All-State honor, CHS and LVHS students joined over 70,000 high school musicians from across the state to audition before a panel of judges in 33 TMEA Regions. Students who ranked the highest then advanced to compete against student musicians from other TMEA Regions at the TMEA Area level, with the highest-ranking then qualifying for All-State status.
“These five outstanding student musicians have persevered through challenges to create beautiful music and reach this pinnacle of accomplishment for high school musicians. Only the top 2 percent of all musicians in the state of Texas earn the All-State designation,” said SAISD Director of Advanced Academics and Fine Arts Tiffany Huebner. “We are so proud of our All-Staters, and recognize this accomplishment and their hours of hard work, personal dedication and talent.”
The All-State student musicians will perform with their respective All-State ensembles on February 12, 2022 at the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Nationally recognized conductors will direct the ensembles who rehearse for three days and conclude with the concert performances.
San Angelo ISD extends proud congratulations to these talented students, and commends their dedication to the art of music while exemplifying the attributes of the SAISD Learner Profile. We thank our committed SAISD educators who help to develop and cultivate the talents of our students in celebration of all the ways students are smart, including: CHS Band Director Jason Jones and Mike Barry, Stephanie Ellis-Dearborn, Kristin Ellis-Dearborn, Caleb Lenard, CHS Director of Choirs Landon Gilmore and Sunday Vaught, CHS Orchestra Director Emilee Hall-Rocha and Mykel Martin, and LVHS Band Director Josh Bailey and Jesse Bailey.
